Our story
About Charter & Compass
Charter & Compass was built on a simple observation: most American households are more dependent on outside systems than their grandparents ever were — and most of those households know it.
We are not a survival store. We do not sell fear.
We sell the tools a capable household needs to run itself. Gear that is made in America, built to last, and chosen because it reduces a specific dependency. And alongside the gear, we carry the founding documents and field guides that explain why household sovereignty has always been the American project.
The origin
Kendyl grew up in a household where things got fixed rather than replaced, where the pantry stayed stocked three months deep, and where the founding documents were read at the dinner table — not as a political act, but as a practical one. Her grandmother kept a hand-crank radio in the basement and a copy of the Constitution in the kitchen drawer.
When Kendyl started her own household, she went looking for a store that carried both the gear and the grounding. She could not find one. So she built it.
What we carry
Every product in the Charter & Compass catalog is American-made or American-assembled and chosen against one question: does this reduce a specific household dependency?
We carry a short catalog on purpose. A curated set of tools you can trust is more useful than a warehouse of options you have to sort through.
The constitutional education
The founding documents are not complicated. They are short. They use plain language. Most Americans have never read them fully.
Our field guides and pocket references are not textbooks. They are working documents — the kind you keep in a jacket pocket or a glove box and refer to when the question comes up.
Our guarantee
Every order ships within two business days. Every product is returnable within 90 days, no questions asked. If a product ever fails in normal use, we replace it.
We are a small operation. You will get a direct answer when you contact us.
